HANS from 2016
If I have read my MSA News correctly, we will all be wearing HANS starting 2016.
Is possible to self fit HANS posts to existing SNELL 2010 helmets?
Once a HANS has been purchased will this then need the purchase of specific seat belts?

Re: HANS from 2016
Hans can be fitted by yourself if your helmet Is designed to do so. With strengthening bits built in and pre drilled , it's what I have done.
As far as I am aware any 3" belts are ok

Re: HANS from 2016
Some advice needed from those who already use HANS.
What degree of HANS is suitable for a 7'esque car. 20 degree looks about right?
Size
How do shirt collar sizes apply to the HANS sizing system?
Does 16.5 equate to medium ? etc

Re: HANS from 2016
I will check but I think I have the 20 deg and large racing series from Stand 21 and that is a tight fit I would air on the side of caution, if you went too small you might not fit in.
I think if you are 16.5" you will defo need a large

Re: HANS from 2016
I am pretty sure that if you put the posts in yourself you still need to send your helmet away to be verified by the FIA and have the FIA-8868 sticker put on your helmet to show it is eligible for use with HANS.
Also, I am a 16.5" neck and a medium 20 degree Scroth Pro fits perfectly, I have used it even in Radical and it doesn't dig in too much.

Re: HANS from 2016
I have just spoken with MSA.
Yes.
Hans posts may be retro fitted to a pre drilled HANS suitable helmet.
The helmet will have to have these posts fitted by the helmet manufacturer or it designated agent.
Once fitted, FIA hologram type stickers will be applied to show that the posts have been correctly fitted.
Without following this procedure it is likely that scrutineering will be failed.
Could be a good excuse to go to the Motorsport show for some helmet shopping.

Re: HANS from 2016
Whilst researching getting a HANS found a link to this
http://english.schroth.com/download/EA_8-2__2014-06.pdf
Although it is for their products, much of the information is generic to similar products.

Found the comment below on Uphill Rracers. May be worth looking at for those in need.
"No commercial interest to me personally at all and purely information for fellow hill climbers who need to meet this year's new Hans Device legislation ...
Cobra Seats of Telford have a batch of Medium & Large size Hans Device head restraints on special offer at £150. Contact there is Mark Dunsford."

Think of all the upgrades you can do with your redundancy though
