HERITAGE 4 HR RELAY
There will be a HCLC team entering the Heritage 4hr relay at Snetterton on Sunday 11th October:
John Walton - Procomp LA Gold
Ian Smythe - Fisher Fury
Billy Fletcher - Fletcher Hornet Mk2
This is a really good event, and very much how the Birkett used to be, with a good filed of cars and a real "clubbie" spirit.

Given what I have heard of last years goings on, I am considering having a fuel tank that fills the entire passenger space and have a catheter fitted

Re: HERITAGE 4 HR RELAY
The theme for the team is cars that raced in the various 750MC kit car championships of the 1990's, so a theme with a bit of "Heritage".
With only 3 in the team, its going to be quite hectic getting the cars turned round for their next stint, and consequently a lot of time is going to be spent on standby.
Hopefully, we wont have the same problems as last year and everything will run smoothly

As Ian said, a better name for the team would be "on a wing and a prayer"
The Mk2 engine was breathing heavy at Snetterton a couple of weeks ago, and it appears this was because the engine was detonating and had damaged the pistons
The engine is stripped down as far as it needs to be and all the re-usable parts are prepared ready to go back in. Picking up some secondhand pistons/rods tonight and already have some new shells and rings to go on them, then they can go back in.
Head gasket set and head bolts should be with me tomorrow or Friday, so hoping to get it back together over the weekend.

Re: HERITAGE 4 HR RELAY
head gasket set and head bolts plus sump gasket turned up yesterday and picked up the secondhand pistons/rods last night. Apparently only did 30K miles and then crank seized/shells spun on one cylinder but he couldn't remember which, though it appears to be No3. They are in very good condition and I have examined them and checked the rods are not twisted. The internal diameter of the con-rods big ends are currently being checked for size, especially No 3.
So its looking good for getting the engine back together this weekend.

Message from MGCC:
Dear Team Manager,
This week the club will be sending out all the tickets for the event.
As we have all the individual drivers details for each team, we will post tickets direct to your drivers. Most of which are competing on Saturday anyway.
You yourself will receive tickets either as a driver or separate manager, and then on the day when you sign on you will get your pack of race numbers and letters, along with your team managers lanyards.
Any questions the please email or call me on the details below.
Regards,
John Hutchison
Race Competitions Secretary

Re: HERITAGE 4 HR RELAY
Finals, timetable and paddock plan are all available for downloading at:
http://www.mgcc.co.uk/motorsport/race-competitor-information/
Please read the finals especially regards "continuous qualifying" and the start procedure with green flag straight out of the assembly area and onto track behind the safety car.
The paddock plan shows that we are team No 12 again (as requested so I don't have to change numbers ) and we are in garage 12.
Looks like there are 23 teams entered so far.

Re: HERITAGE 4 HR RELAY
Yes, we should be getting 4 tickets each.
We have no crew planned yet, so it might be a good idea to have some help, but would be best to have just a few, rather than a whole gaggle.
We should hopefully just need a couple of people on the wall to keep an eye out for the driver each lap, look for and give signals, monitor lap times etc.

Re: HERITAGE 4 HR RELAY
Its only just over a week now till this event, and the team is just about taking shape!
Ian is looking at getting a fourth member for the team, but we should be able to cope with three. Â
Ian has now had his car on the rolling road, so it just remains to be seen how it behaves on the track.
I should get mine back together this weekend, and out for a test run.
John should have a full compliment of working gauges by this weekend.
So things to do in preparation for the race are:
1. Â Apply race number 12
2. Â Ensure you have a system for accurately ensuring your not exceeding the pit-lane speed limit. Â I believe this is 60kph / 36mph. Â Please can you let me know if you have a speedo, and whether it can be seen with the car in race trim, and whether it is accurate. Â If you don't have a speedo, then how you will monitor your speed. Â If using the tacho, the Racetech tachos we are using have a compressed scale in the lower revs, so you may need to use third gear in the pit lane. Â I will have a Tom Tom with me if anyone wants to use it for checking the accuracy of their instruments.
3. Â Remember to take loads of fuel.

Re: HERITAGE 4 HR RELAY
1. Yes no problem
2. My speedo is from a skoda estelle and I noticed the other day it seems to massively underestimate so I will try to get my data logger fitted which gives a digital speed display

Currently no speedo fitted so it may have to be the 3rd gear option

Re: HERITAGE 4 HR RELAY
OK John, you can use my tom-tom on Saturday to run up and down the entry road in 3rd at 36 MPH to see what revs that equates to, and I have some dayglo to put a marker on the tacho.
Ian if you want to put a marker on your speedo, your more than welcome to us the tom-tom to calibrate it.
