After taking the decision, many years ago now, to bin the Fiat engine from the Marrow I was left with the conumdrum of what to use as a replacement.  I could have taken a step backwards and refitted the Reliant engine and box, but they are getting a bit thin on the ground now.  I did like the sound of the Reliant at 9000rpm though and the combined weight of engine and box at only 65Kg.  I wanted something which would sit low in the chassis, enough to be able to return to a level bonnet again.  I really did not like having to increase the bonnet height by 4 inches, it completely spoiled the look of the car.  The Fiat engine could be rotated to 45 degrees to sit lower, but then you had to make/buy a new sump.  I tried a couple of times to modify by cutting and shutting the original Fiat sump, but was never happy with the results and all this for a restricted, over weight 1100cc.

A bit of research showed the Suzuki Super Carry used a 1300cc efi with a lot more alloy in use than the Fiat.  Coupled with the 65 degree angle when used in a Carry as standard I decided this was to be the one.  This is the same base engine as the Swift Gti, so plenty of info and tuneablilty and also scope for upgrading to a 1600cc if I ever get to the stage of needing more.  My plan is to ditch the efi for a bike carb set up, mainly due to efi management issues and run either Megajolt or Nodiz for spark tuning.

Another reason for choosing the Carry engine was that it comes with a longitudinal 5 speed gearbox as standard, which is ratioed to partner with a 4.4 diff.  It's almost as if they'd thought about this before me!

Here is the trial fit showing the requirement to lower the carbs still with a snake like manifold;
