The red lights first went out and my racing life started off in the year 2001 with the 750 Motor Club's premier championship, 750 Formula.  The first year went well with the reward of the Robin Read Trophy for highest placed newcomer despite only completing half a season.  A full season was planned however a certain late Mr Bin Laden decided to occupy a fair chunk of my time.

An attempt was made to challenge for class B honours during several of the following seasons, not knowing the fragililty of the Reliant 850cc highly tuned powerplant.  Several DNFs and a few too many DNSs later led me to the conclusion 750 Formula was not the right one for me.
Around about late 2005 I was offered the drive in the Royal Navy built and owned Locost which I have been championing in not only the 750MC, but the previously titled RAFMSA Race and Speed Challenges.

Today I manage the 2 RN Locosts and am in the process of rebuilding my old 750 Formula Marrow with a 1300 Suzuki engine and box.

Look forward to seeing you all at a race meet some time.  Very Happy

A 1300cc Suzuki engine in the Marrow, that sounds very interesting Very Happy

Would that be a Hyabusa affraid or a car engine?

Are you or the other Navy lads interested in coming out to play at Snetterton in November (See events board)?

It's the 1300 out of a Super Carry, but I haven't given it a name yet.  It's taken a bit of modifying to get it in, but that's being saved for the engine thread.

It's doubtful for me making Snett as I won't be collecting the engine for the Blue Locost until Oulton, then I have to go back to work until 3 Nov.  I'd have to trust someone else to fit and test it in time.  This also means the Yellow Locost will be without an engine until our friends in green have sourced and fitted one, which is not planned until next season.

I haven't put the Snett race out yet,  I'll do that tonight.

It will be good to see the Marrow with a different engine, looking forward to seeing some photos. The marrow was very quick with just the tuned Reliant engine, I imaging the 1300 will have similar power and more torque?

The brakes are already at a standard to handle the extra weight and they were designed for a car set-up running very sticky slicks.  I haven't corner weighted it yet, but I imagine the weight increase to be around 30Kg.  The power increase is another matter entirely.  The Reliant was taken up to 85BHP at 9000rpm, the Suzuki won't be revving anywhere near that, probably capped at 7000rpm, but with the ability to use 5th gear.  As it's a replica of a Swift Gti engine it's possible to achieve 120BHP without having to switch to the 1600. It's still a long way off hitting the track, but progress is being made.
