You asked for a CV here goes

Post by Sumo on Mon Sep 01, 2014 3:08 pm

OK here goes,  a quick CV ( war and peace)

1976 - 1997   Marshalling for the Silverstone Emergency service (ES team).  Those were the lads and lasses than jumped over the wall to save your skins, notching up 300 Silverstone days and 250 other circuit and rally days.

1976, Taking part in Silverstone Racing School course and races (JRRDS).

1978 Passed my driving test and the day after driving on a 12 car rally in mothers Morris 1100. Was only going out to watch, honest mum. The same evening realised I was not quick enough to be a driver.

1979             Started a full 12 car season and progressed to "Restricted" events of 100 cars 150 miles.  Lots of fun but no results.

1980             Did my 1st stage event in the left seat in a 1300 Mini, won our class and hooked on the sport from that point onward.

1981 - 1985 Did several championships winning 2 regional ones and almost winning the European Champs. in a Mk2 Escort 1600.  We could not afford to do the last round in Germany and the results went the wrong way for us.  My driver went on to win Historic championships, Middle East Rally Champs rounds and finish 3rd on the East African Safari

1985 On the back of the Euro's we were offered an work assisted Mk2 WRC campaign, all we had to do was find £350,000 in 10 weeks.  Fell a bit short (£300K).

1985 - 1988 Did the BTRDA National Champs with another driver, finally won the Champs and had several beers to many that night.  Still cannot remember that Saturday night, problem being on the Monday I took my Accountancy exams.  scrapped through.

1988  -  1996 Retired from competing but continued to organise and marshal.  Highlight being the COC on my clubs premiere event, becoming at the time the youngest "Restricted" level COC.   Also during that time I was invited on to RAF Rescue and gain both my Rescue and Recovery licence.  The RACMSA then started the marshals national training scheme and I was honoured to be one of the first to be qualified as a trainer.

1996  -  2000 Came out of retirement and was teamed up with a young novice, his father recommended me to him ( sign of getting old) and we had 4 great years.  His name, Simon Mauger, one of the fastest drivers in the country now, again being offered a works Ford, JWRC, but could not raise the money in time, almost made it this time.

1998 I was asked to join the RAFMSA team to assist with the marshal training and timekeeping, which my wife and myself had been involved in since the early 1980's.  Both of us being regional chief timekeepers up to national status. Highlight again both of us being senior timekeepers on different stages on the RAC Rally.

2000's Assisted with the start of Barkston Heath and in the process got my Brother in Law interested.  Since then we have been competing in anything from a 1300 Nova to a full bells  and whistle Darrian.

Now up to date.  stay tuned for part 2

I cannot believe they you have taken 'short fat' out of the forum tag line! It really made me chuckle and I have just told Adam about it too! Good resume Sumo. I fly out to Malta tomorrow for a holiday..... I was going to take a book but I can just read your CV instead!
