Will it ruin my car?

I have had some . Ideas for my cars development in the future and..........i have been thinking and instead of changing my car for a lighter one, maybe I could keep the car and add more POWER! So I have been looking at supercharger my existing engine. I have been quoted a very reasonable price so it has got me thinking.........I would only go for a target of 250bhp as I don't won't to stress the internals too much and keep them standard apart from rap bolts that I all ready have. That would give between 250 and 300ftlbs . So I wonder if it would this make the car unreliable and crap to drive. I think that It could be mapped for wet and dry.

I am dubious about it but that power for very little money is tempting. Will it destroy the drive train and be undeliverable in anything other than dry conditions?

I think the drive train will not suffer with Supercharging due to the progressive nature that a Supercharger produces boost obviously you may find your clutch a weak point depending what you have fitted.

Again reliabilty should not suffer but you need to be aware that any forced induction generates heat so careful consideration needs to be given to intake temperature so an Intercooler/ Chargecooler should be fitted do you have room for one ?

As for wet weather driving again due to the progressive nature of how the Supercharger works you wont notice any big steps in the power like you would with a Turbo. Even if you did you learn to drive it like I did with the Cossie.

if you're running uprated cams you need to find out if they are suitable for forced induction

so I reckon go for it but you will still be Saddled with the poor Suspension that is on the front of the car could you not find somebody to build you a proper double wishbone and use for example a Caterham upright.

the other thing to consider is that you will now be subject to a x 1.7 conversion factor on your engine capacity so the chances of class wins etc become elusive as you will generally be running with the big boys in the top classes

I am with Ian on what issues this may bring.
No doubt you have done your research on how much space the kit takes up, if not Jim and Paul at Tiger have done this with Wayne's car.

I am unsure what a reasonable price is, but looking at the prices out there I would consider a S2000 engine.

I agree the front end needs doing if I keep the car long term. Wider track with more camber adjustment is needed. The guy I am talking to has just fitted a supercharger to a blacktop in a tiger avon including intercooler and with temps only 20 deg above ambient. This was all without cutting holes in the bodywork. And when I say it was cheep it was less tha a grand if I supply the supercharger. It will of course need to be set up on the rolling road so there is another cost but all in all altering my car next year could be cheaper than buying another. But the other side of the coin is keep the car as is and spend the money on racing more next year........ The problem is that just as I think I am catching Billy he goes and makes the hornet go faster. Maybe I just need to see where Ian will be in terms of pace before I decide. I just want to have a close race with my mates, it's not to much to ask is it?

Would be nice to supercharge it, but it could probably just be adding more complexity and future cost. It may be easier and cheaper to develop what you already have. You certainly seem to have the hang of driving your car, so theres not much room for improvement there, but there are certain aspects of the car that probably need improving. As you say, you could wide track the front and at the same time provide camber adjustment and possibly a front anti-roll bar. You could also replace the Spaxstics dampers. We can hopefully have a better look at it in a couple of weeks time.

Just to add to my last post Ed your car would be ineligible for the Sports Specials as they state no forced induction. Just a thought if that series was in your plans.

Oh OK thats why Wayne had to run his tiger in the SR And GTs. Ok maybe we need to sort out the basics before more POWER. I would still like to do this in the future maybe the following winter.

Will replacing the space really make that much of a difference? I'm after 2 seconds a lap
