RACING IN SEPTEMBER

Post by billy f on Wed Jul 29, 2015 10:25 am

Looking ahead to September, we have the third and final round of the AFRC at Snett 300 on Saturday 12th September. This is currently priced at £295 for a 40 minute pit-stop race, which is good value for money. However, it looks like several of the RAFMSA racers will not be able to compete, so I am a bit worried that it will be a small grid and subsequently no-one to have a battle with.

An alternative is a sports v saloon allcomers race with CSCC at Donington on Sunday 6th September, which is a 30 minute qualifying session and a 40 minute pit-stop race for one or two drivers. This is priced at £385, which is reasonable, but not as good value as the AFRC race, but may have a bigger grid.

The other possibility is an allcomers race with MSVR on the Silverstone GP track, which from memory is 2 x 20 minute races, but at £400 is out of my budget.

My preferred event would be the AFRC race, but only if it had a decent sized grid and some cars with a similar pace to mine. An alternative would be the CSCC race, especially if they would accept 2 cars rather than 1 car with 2 drivers?

Any thoughts on the above?

I'm not really fussed about AFRC, rarely cars to have fun with.
CSCC at Donny is possible,(£4.27 per minute if shared) but 750mc have 2 x races at Mallory on Sept 27th (£5.44 per minute)

Silverstone would be useful if we are entering a Birkett Team???

Not fussed about entering the Birkett as it no longer has the same atmosphere to it, plus I find the GP circuit a bit featureless and boring. The Mallory event may be interesting.

Update from Chris Slator on the AFRC race:

Hello Billy,

We don't have a firm estimation of AFRC numbers yet for this race, I'm sending the calling notice out tonight.

Through the 750MC we are accepting guest entries though to bolster the numbers and make sure the racing is interesting. I am looking at adopting the same class structure as Roadsports (bhp/ton) for this event to give something for the guests to race for. Giles and I are confident that we'll get over 20 entries.

There's also an allcomers race on the Sat at £160 to make a weekend of it.

P.S Our race is on 13 September.

I like the sound of doing the allcomers race on the Saturday, then the AFRC race on the Sunday (possibly shared).

Hi Ian

With the addition of the allcomers race on the Saturday, my thoughts mirror yours, it would be good to do the allcomers on the Sunday, then have a two car entry into the AFRC race on the Sunday Very Happy

I might even be tempted to bring the Mk4 and also the Mk2 out to play Cool

There is a bit of confusion re the allcomers race as on the event entry form it is shown as being on the Sunday.

However, in the "news" part of their website, there is a race specific entry form which shows it is on the Saturday. Its 15 minute practice with 20 minute race for £160.

I have just entered the allcomers race with the Hornet Mk4 (poor thing hasn't run since last years Plum Pud).

If my entry is accepted, then I am already entered into the event, so it should be a simple matter to wait and see how the grid for the AFRC race develops and then enter once it becomes a reasonable size, probably as a 2 car entry with Ian to keep the costs down.

That's it cheers

if your already entered into the event for the allcomers, then you will be on the list of competitors that goes to the MSA the week prior to the event. That way you can see how the grid for the AFRC develops and then enter in the last few days if required. From the point of view of our cars, I think the quality of the race will depend on what guest drivers enter, and we probably wont know that till the week before.

The cost of the allcomers is £160 and half the cost of the AFRC is £142.50, so that would be £302.50 for both races if you can find someone to share with.

Not sure if John is coming to this one as he was looking to enter the double header Sports Specials at Mallory. Snetterton would be closer for him and the 300 is a cracking circuit, plus he is already familiar with many of the corners from last weekend so can judge if any changes he makes to the car has made any difference.
