Zetec timing
So I decided to start doing the water pump/timing belt swap on the Fiesta today (which has a 2l silvertop Zetec fitted), and I've run out of talent/knowledge... and the Haynes isn't helping.
I've got the aux belt off fine, and managed to set TDC and lock the cams using a Laser tool designed for Zetecs. I should add, the wheels/hubs are off the car so it is up on stands. I couldn't lower the engine enough to get at the crank pulley, so have 'relieved' the inner wing slightly to allow access with a socket. So how do I lock the crank in order to get the crank pulley off? For those not familiar, you can't remove the waterpump until you have got the crank pulley off. The book says to either put the car in gear and have someone stand on the brakes (which I can't do), or to remove the starter motor and jam the flywheel. Having popped the starter out, I can see the flywheel but can't see how to lock it... I can get a screwdriver between the teeth but don't have anything to brace it against...
Also, I've googled and there is some conflicting advice out there - if I'm removing the belt and tensioner, do I need to loosen the cam pulleys or not? Confused
All advice welcomed and gratefully received! Frodo

Re: Zetec timing
Frodo is your engine a blacktop or silvertop zetec ! If its a silvertop then im 99% sure that the tool you have bought wont work (iirc its only an m8 bolt thats the correct length ) ive done a couple that have been that tight only an impact gun would suffice.
good luck
good luck
