ED's ENGINE BACKFIRING AT LOWER REVS

Post by billy f on Thu Jun 11, 2015 8:14 am

Hi Ed
Following on from playing with your carbs at St Goueno, in an effort to stop the backfiring and remove the massive flat spot at lower revs, I have looked up my records and the jets you tried from my car where 60F8.  60 relates to the hole in the jet for the fuel, and F8 relates to the hole in the jet for the air.

If I remember correctly, your jets were 56F8 as per the jets that 45's are supplied with as standard, so we tried the jets from my carbs which were a big improvement.  However, as yours was still popping a bit with my 60F8 jets, then it may be worth trying 60F9 jets.  The F9 is a smaller air hole, so this will richen the mixture a little bit more.

These are only £1,98 each from Southern Carburrettors:

The new jets made a great difference, can't remember what my previous . Times for the 200 where but it was deffo an improvement. a touch of wheel spin on the exit of 3rd gear corners in the dry is a new experience for me (might have to soften off more in the wet now) I don't know if it was true or not but the engine seemed to rev more freely in the gear at all rev ranges not just at lower revs as I thought it would.
